Furoshiki is a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth that brings a unique touch of elegance and sustainability to gift wrapping

In this article, we will show you the art of Furoshiki gift wrapping, providing you with tips, recommendations, and sources to get started. Join us in reducing waste and embracing eco-friendly practices with this beautiful and reusable alternative to traditional gift paper.

1. Furoshiki: The Eco-Friendly Gift Wrapping Solution

Furoshiki is not just a piece of fabric; it's a centuries-old Japanese tradition that embraces the concept of mottainai (a term meaning "waste nothing"). By using Furoshiki, we eliminate the need for single-use wrapping paper, reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainability. These beautiful cloths can be reused over and over again, making them a planet-friendly choice for gift wrapping.

2. Where to Find Furoshiki Cloth

At Karuna Gifts Co., we take care of the wrapping process for you. When you gift a Love + Light care package, your box will be elegantly wrapped in Furoshiki cloth.

If you want to wrap your own gifts at home, here are some options to source Furoshiki cloth:

- Online Platforms: Explore popular e-commerce sites like Etsy and Amazon, where you can find a wide variety of Furoshiki cloths in different colors, patterns, and sizes.

- Local Fabric Stores: Visit your nearby fabric store and have them cut fabric of your choice into square shapes. A recommended starting size is 22" x 22" for versatility.

- Alternative Options: Don't have Furoshiki cloth? No problem! You can also repurpose cotton dinner napkins for smaller-sized gifts. Get creative and find fabrics that suit your style and gift.

3. Mastering Furoshiki Gift Wrapping

Furoshiki gift wrapping is particularly suitable for small to medium-sized gifts. The technique can be learned with a little practice and adds an extra touch of thoughtfulness to your presents. Here's a simple step-by-step guide:

-Lay our your fabric in the shape of a diamond (not a square.) A point/ corner should be on top and directly in front of you.

- Place your gift in the center of the Furoshiki cloth.

-Fold the top and bottom pieces of cloth up and under the box. Fold it just as you would using regular paper gift wrap.

- Bring opposite corners of the cloth together and tie them in a knot above the gift.

- Adjust the tension to create a secure and aesthetically pleasing wrap. You can "fluff" the fabric on the knot/ bow to make it appear more full.

- Experiment with different folding methods and knots to enhance the presentation of your gift.

-For the finishing touch, place a floral stem through the knot. We used a faux eucalyptus stem for ours. You can use real or faux florals- it doesn't matter!
